# Status

> Commit summaries, areas, productivity metrics, and weekly reports.

Status processes commits across your connected repositories to show what changed and where work is going. It costs **\$0.05 per successfully summarized commit**, across all branches, with each commit billed at most once. See [Status pricing](/pricing#status).

To turn it on, select **Status** in the Macroscope app, write a short Product Overview (context Macroscope uses when summarizing your work), and choose the weekly cadence your reports follow. The [initial backfill](/setup-instructions#status) of recent commits usually takes about 60 minutes.

Status runs only on repositories with **Summarize Commits** turned on in **Settings → Repos**. New workspaces start with it off, and **Defaults** sets it for newly linked repositories.

After the backfill, these features are available:

| Feature | Use it to |
| - | - |
| Commit summaries | Search changes across repositories, with code and issue-tracker context. |
| [Areas](/areas) | Group activity by product, team, or business unit. |
| [Productivity](/productivity) | View estimated coding time and shipped work by contributor or team. |
| [Slack subscriptions](/slack-subscriptions) | Send commit summaries, PR activity, and build failures to channels. |
| [Macros](/macros) | Schedule reports or run tasks when commits and PRs arrive. |
| [Ask Macroscope](/agent) | Query your codebase, history, and connected tools from Slack or GitHub. |

Manage digest recipients, productivity visibility, and excluded authors in [workspace settings](/settings#workspace-settings). Agent queries and Macros use [Agent credits](/pricing#agent) in addition to Status commit charges.
